Fun Friday Happy Hour

I am of the view that every Friday should have an hour that is designated, throughout Australia for fun and happiness. It is the end of the week after all and there is the whole weekend to look forward to and the previous five working days to be celebrated.  So why not have an hour of fun and happiness and I do not mean happy hour at the pub.

Happiness comes in many forms and everyone has a different idea of what it takes to make them happy and what fun is. For me, sitting by a campfire with great company, watching the flames and coals ooze and flicker is nearly as good as it gets.  Unless my daughters are with me of course and then it is perfect!  It actually does not matter what it is that makes you happy or how you have fun.  What is important is that you do it.

So go ahead, make the space in your week for one hour of fun, frivolity and happiness – your very own Fun Friday Happy Hour. You can feel even better knowing that by being happy and having fun, it will quite likely rub off onto someone nearby and from there to someone else and so on.  You could even create a wave of happiness and fun.  What fun!  Then again, maybe every day should have a fun and happy hour.

Strategies for Success – Hot Tip 6

This hot tip is for everyone, everywhere in the world, who wants to feel positive and successful. It is simple, turn off the media.  Do What? I hear you ask.  You read right, turn off the media and occupy your time doing something more positive.  The fact is that media is full of negative input and if you wish to be successful, to feel positive, successful and happy, it is hard to do that when you are bombarded by negative inputs.  Much easier when the input is positive.  Much nicer for the Universe as well.

When you do turn off the media, you actually find many hours of the week available to you to do other more exciting things like researching your new venture, your home business or work from home opportunity or any of the other things that you might be passionate about.  And passion and following your passion is one of the important keys to success.  So give up media in all forms, TV, newspapers, magazines and you will have time for your passion.

I hear so many people saying that they want more time in their day for the things they want to do. Well, here is one way to gift yourself time.  Time to exercise, time to play with your kids or dog, time to expand your mind, grow your mind power or time to read inspiring books or articles.

In the words of Nelson Mandela, “As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to be the same”. Wonderful man, wonderful book.  Well I am off to expand my mind, have some personal development and read a bit more of Nelson Mandela’s life story.  And have a bit of fun with one of my passions; books.

Happiness and Fun – A Gem Digging Expedition

According to numerous readings that I have done, life is about happiness and fun and I recently found both of those on a camping trip to the topaz fields west of Cairns. These gem fields are located at O’Briens Creek and are part of the Gulf Savannah country in Queensland.  My husband Owen, is a gem digger from way back and it is a while since we have enjoyed this particular pursuit.  Our three daughters were raised on trips to the gem fields and the bush camping that went with it and we have many lovely occasions with them now reminiscing about those interesting and happy times.  Bush camping introduced our girls to the concepts of self sufficiency and reliance which are both key to developing self awareness and ultimately a desire to participate in personal development.

We had forgotten the joy and anticipation that goes with preparing for the trip, the journey, getting there, setting up camp and going off to find the gems. It is all such fun and exciting and it is refreshing to just let go of urban life and enjoy all that the bush has to offer.  The weather was amazing and the birds constantly entertained us, the creek and rapids produced a soothing background.  Best of all though was the soporific effect that sitting watching the campfire in the evenings gave us.  Conversation flowed gently and after a hard day of gem digging, camping and enjoying ourselves, bedtime came around naturally and sleep was invited in easily.

Ah, gem digging and bush camping, a truly joyous and delightful experience.  One that opened up an opportunity to just be, free from thought and commitments.  Personal development – you betcha!

Strategies for Success – Hot Tip 5

This hot tip is for women who are considering going into business, especially a home business, and I might be biased but I reckon that women should choose a home business in personal development. Do you know that in America, the number of women-owned firms continues to grow at twice the rate of all U.S. firms (23 percent vs. 9 percent). There are an estimated 10 million women-owned, privately-held U.S. businesses. The greatest challenge for women-owned firms is access to capital, credit and equity. Women start businesses on both lifestyle and financial reasons. Many run businesses from home to keep overheads low (reference). I can imagine that the same sort of statistic would exist elsewhere in the world.

I know for sure, in my home business in personal development that many of the business owners are women. And I know that these women have what it takes to set up a business that allows them to work from home.  One of the things that it takes to be successful in your home business is persistence and perseverance.  Not only to access capital, credit and equity as shown by the American statistics, but also to understand marketing, arrange a daily schedule of activities that works for you and to keep going while the business is established and producing an income. Persistence is the key.

And it pays to remember that people who do not succeed in their home business may be just one shot away from success when they give upPersistence and perseverance is everything. Isn’t it great also to see the leadership role that women are taking in business about lifestyle and making money. Here in Cairns, in my home business in personal development, I can be persistent while enjoying my amazing lifestyle and having fun.

Travel and Intuition – Personal Development is the Connection

The connection between travel and intuition as personal development might be a long shot for some people so let me demonstrate how it works. Joe Vitale, writing in The Key, refers to intuition as the inner prompt and considers intuition prompted actions to not always have logical reasoning but acting on an inspired nudge.  Isn’t that a delightful way of looking at one of our most valuable subconscious tools?  Joe says that he takes action based on his inner prompts. Definitions of intuition relate to the mind knowing something without being able to explain with reasoning.  Intuition, also known as “gut feeling“, has been known forever and as we have moved as a society to favour scientific reasoning, logic and rationalisation, intuitive responses have become less valued as a way of knowing.

In my business world of personal development, intuition is critical to understanding the whole self, the full suite of reasons why and how we make decisions and is used as a valid method of decision making. Build trust with your intuition.  Almost every person, though, has to find ways to reconnect with their intuitive processes and that is where the travel comes in.  Many, if not most, people connect with their intuition when their mind is peaceful and slow and driving can do that for you.

I am one of those people who finds breakthrough ideas coming through while I am driving, blow drying my hair and walking in the mornings. I hold the unscientific view that the left and right brain connection is good at these times and helps to stimulate intuition.  Anecdotally though, many people recount the experience of great ideas that feel totally true to them coming while driving.  Works for me, and I just love the idea that I am attending to my personal development while driving and on long trips I can feel particularly happy with myself for doing such great self development work.  And I just sit back and wait for the aha moment.
