Travel and Intuition – Personal Development is the Connection
The connection between travel and intuition as personal development might be a long shot for some people so let me demonstrate how it works. Joe Vitale, writing in The Key, refers to intuition as the inner prompt and considers intuition prompted actions to not always have logical reasoning but acting on an inspired nudge. Isn’t that a delightful way of looking at one of our most valuable subconscious tools? Joe says that he takes action based on his inner prompts. Definitions of intuition relate to the mind knowing something without being able to explain with reasoning. Intuition, also known as “gut feeling“, has been known forever and as we have moved as a society to favour scientific reasoning, logic and rationalisation, intuitive responses have become less valued as a way of knowing.
In my business world of personal development, intuition is critical to understanding the whole self, the full suite of reasons why and how we make decisions and is used as a valid method of decision making. Build trust with your intuition. Almost every person, though, has to find ways to reconnect with their intuitive processes and that is where the travel comes in. Many, if not most, people connect with their intuition when their mind is peaceful and slow and driving can do that for you.
I am one of those people who finds breakthrough ideas coming through while I am driving, blow drying my hair and walking in the mornings. I hold the unscientific view that the left and right brain connection is good at these times and helps to stimulate intuition. Anecdotally though, many people recount the experience of great ideas that feel totally true to them coming while driving. Works for me, and I just love the idea that I am attending to my personal development while driving and on long trips I can feel particularly happy with myself for doing such great self development work. And I just sit back and wait for the aha moment.
Why a Home Business in Personal Development
Why would anyone make a dramatic change in their life and move from a secure job into a home business in personal development? Well, I do not know about all others, but I know my reasons. First and foremost, I was like many people. I did not have job security. Since I was on a contract that allowed my employer to cancel it at any time without reason, I spent those contract years ensuring that I was eminently employable. Working cruel hours, and then doing lots of home work as well, going above and beyond every day, worrying when it came to contract renewal and making sure that I was politically correct. This was a very tiring business and left me wondering what else there might be in life. I hankered after my own small business.
My mind turned to being my own boss. After all, could it be any less secure than my circumstances at the time. Although it was critical, to make money was not my only driving aim. I had always wanted other things like work freedom, a balance between accountability and responsibility, happiness and generosity and a host of other values based things. The job had been good to me; I loved it but was driven to make my own way to success. Have you ever heard of a millionaire who got that way while in a job? A home business was definitely the go, something online if possible and suddenly there it was!! The Universe provided and into my line of vision came this amazing online home business in personal development. I was ecstatic to say the least and my intuition assured me that this is just right.
This business caters for all of my needs. Time for my family, working from home, only the travel that I want to do, the opportunity to talk with amazing people every day, immersion in personal development which has been a lifetime love affair, assisting people all over the world to achieve their dreams and desires while I have the prospect of earning a six figure income. The business has been amazingly successful in Australia and I am excited to be a part of such a revolution. So the next time that I am asked – why a home business in personal development I will answer quite simply – because it is fun. And then I will drink to my success and my intuition!
Masterminding for My Home Business in Personal Development
I have long been a student of personal development but it was not until 5 months ago, when I embarked upon a unique and transforming program that I became a fully and actively committed student. Since then I have been re-reading some oldies but goodies as well as becoming familiar with new and exciting writers. One of my re-reads is Success – The Best of Napoleon Hill, revised and updated by Patricia G. Horan. Hill, writing in 1928 and 1930, outlines in great detail the Master Mind which he defines as “a composite mind, consisting of two or more individual minds working in perfect harmony, with a Definite Aim in view”. Hill goes on to talk about the power of abundance in such a situation and the ability through this process to stimulate the minds of the Master Mind to a highly intensified degree of action in pursuit of the Definite Aim. I was loving this idea for my home business in personal development.
Hill contended then that it is possible for thoughts to communicate with other thoughts; minds to speak directly to minds and gives as an example the Master Mind that served so well for Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Harvey Firestone. Well, I will be happy to achieve to the extent that those three men did so two weeks ago I set off on a journey to meet up with as many of the experts within my new home business in personal development field as I possibly could in the time that I had available. The first thing that I found was the absolute generosity of those experienced people.
They freely gave me hours of their time, shared their business acumen, provided hot tips and advice garnered from others and from their own experiences, lent me books and in some cases hosted me in their homes. I greatly appreciated this generosity and having never been seen it before, was amazed and humbled. I am sure that in relation to give and receive, these people will receive ten fold in return.
Now for the amazing bit. In some cases, I was gently but firmly challenged in regard to some of what I believed or was doing and that was an incredible learning experience on its own. However in all cases, I left with something on my mind that I have subsequently turned much attention to and found some answers that I did not ever expect. I can only think that this was a genuine Master Mind as defined by Hill. Apart from that though, I greatly welcomed the Master Minding discussions that we had and learned heaps from them. I thoroughly recommend that every small business owner find themselves a Master Mind!! And I am sure that my own home business in personal development will be all the better for those Master Minds and others that will take place in the future.
The drive down the coast from Cairns to Brisbane was alright too. I highly recommend a look at both Tannum Sands and Burrum Heads.
A Long Drive
I have set off on a long drive from Cairns to Brisbane and back, two to two and a half thousand kilometres. It is my first ever long drive alone and I am finding it a real adventure, fun and exciting. Hours and hours alone in the car, just me for company and with a need to stay alert at all times. I have found the following three things to be fantastic for all kinds of reasons. First, I continue to work on my personal development, second I am remaining awake and alert and third it is fun.
- Practice being present, in the here and now. This is really easy to do while driving because you need to be! So it is a matter of gently drawing yourself back each time that you drift off into the past or future. You can also concentrate attention onto the things that surround you, looking for picturesque scenes, at lovely gum trees and the wildlife around you. Easy, and you stay present while doing it as well as scanning the environment for your own safety.
- Show appreciation and gratitude, especially for other drivers. I find that by concentrating on those drivers who are friendly, generous and accommodating, I am finding more of them on the road. It also triggers in me, the need to do the same in return, particularly for the trucks. Overall it makes the driving experience a whole lot more pleasant, it is sweet to get the waves from other drivers and I find myself in gratitude really easily. I can also look around and be grateful for the road where it is good, the countryside, how my car performs and so on. Easy.
- Listen to music, especially baroque which is said to be the best for assisting to tap your intuition and ideas. Music can also be uplifting which is good for energy, the mood and soul. It works for me and makes the journey pleasant and go by faster. I intersperse the music with personal development CDs and silence (or as silent as you can get while driving). These are all part of my personal development program and on this long trip, it is almost an immersion. Fabulous and most enjoyable.
So next time you are on a long drive, turn it to your advantage and arrive at your destination with energy, in a great mood and having made in roads into your own personal development. You can do it any time, any place.
Positive Thoughts Across the World
I am like most people I know in that I have had no idea what to do with some of the distressing new stories that I hear on a daily basis. Having recently returned to Cairns from Mexico, the outbreak of swine flu hit my conscious mind quickly and alerted me to the very real risk that exists in the Universe as a result of the unlimited travel that is now available. I could very easily be one of those Australian people who needed to be tested. Indeed, I had friends calling me to ensure that I had followed up as I should.
Today I see on the news that the level of concern in Mexico is reducing with authorities accepting that a high level of quick public action was necessary to manage the risk of a world wide outbreak of swine flu. No doubt that will be well received everywhere and will perhaps be little comfort to the families of those who are very ill or who have died as a result of contracting this very serious virus.
So, the one thing that I can do, that may be of help to everyone is to send positive messages this way to all of those affected, and to all of those who are afraid right now while they await there own tests. To those people I send messages of compassion and hope.
Additionally I send messages of gratitude to those people all over the world who have contacted authoritites and who have worked to control and minimise the risk. To all of those people I send my appreciation for the responsibility taken and the work that you all do on a daily basis to take care of the rest of us.
Finally, to everyone else I send positive messages about good health. The good news is that the rest of us who are not affected can work to keep our own good health and can support everyone whom we know to do the same. The more positive messages that are sent out into the Universe the better.
