Is Entrepreneurship For You?

It appears that entrepreneurship is big business!! Our Universities are selling their Entrepreneurship programs like crazy, with the University of Sydney holding a symposium on the subject earlier this year.  Governments all over the world are hard at work fostering entrepreneurship and the explosion of information regarding it is available through magazines, e-zines and prolific blogging.  What could possibly have caused this interest?  Well, entrepreneurs have led the United States out of every recession for the last 100 years and it appears that this will occur again.  On the site Entrepreneurship.org, Barack Obama has been quoted as saying “The answer is not heavy-handed regulations that crush the entrepreneurial spirit and risk-taking of American capitalism– that’s what’s made our economy great– but it is to restore a sense of balance.”

Recently, speaking at a Telstra breakfast, Andrew Griffiths, Small Business and Entrepreneurialism Expert, provided a number of ways that you can bullet proof your business and he also said that after every recession/downturn there is an equal or greater upturn and the smart entrepreneur is watching for the wave and gets onto it early. In May this year, Andrew said that the upturn is coming and to get onto that wave now.  Wow – are you ready for the wave?

Is entrepreneurship for you or will you just let that wave slide right by? There are a number of ways that you can be sure to be on that wave, starting with having passion and enthusiasm for something.  You know there are  great stories of success right now, even with the apparent world wide financial slump.  For example, the combination of sport, fantasy, passion and enthusiasm has created a niche that appears to be recession proof.  Same for personal development programs which have created a 19 billion worldwide market over the last year, in spite of the economy of the time.  Want to know more about that opportunity?

In essence, what I am saying is that coming out of an economic downturn is prime time for those with a bit of  entrepreneurship. You may want to explore entrepreneurship – it might be for you.  You could join the legions of others who have found prosperity by being on the crest of the wave.  And remember, many of the most successful businesses started out as home businesses – start from where you are at.

Looking For An Entrepreneur

An entrepreneur is described as a person who is willing to take on a venture and all of the responsibility that goes with it. This French word means “to undertake”; and in today’s world that undertaking is a business one, often with substantial risk attached.  So an entrepreneur is one who takes action.  This reminds me of the words of Theodore Roosevelt in Chicken Soup for the Soul; “Credit belongs to the man who is in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly…..who at best knows in the end the high achievement of triumph”.  I am sure that Roosevelt was speaking of an entrepreneur.  Read some great blogs for entrepreneurs.

The world of an entrepreneur is an exciting one with new possibilities on the table every day. While this is not the world for everyone, currently more and more people are moving towards their own business as a life of employment becomes less attractive and high paying jobs harder to find.  People are investigating, via the Internet, the endless stream of business opportunities that are presented.  So how do you decide to become an entrepreneur and what does it take to succeed.

For many people, redundancy has made the decision for them and set them on the path to be an entrepreneur.  For others, life in a job has long held little charm and they simply come to the “fork in the road” and are not prepared to work like that forever.  Some people have a burning desire to earn a lot more than paid employment will ever allow and still others are drawn to the pure pleasure of being their own boss!

So if you are thinking of becoming an entrepreneur think about the following:-

  • Can you set your mind to something and see it through?
  • Are you prepared to do the hard yards that the first few years might take?
  • What will you do if you have a setback – do you have perseverance?
  • Can you work alone and remain motivated?
  • Can you focus on solutions and not the problem?
  • Do you take control of your own destiny and all of the responsibility that goes with that?

If you answer yes to those questions then you might just be an entrepreneur and the person who I am looking for.  Contact me.

Strategies for Success – Hot Tip 5

This hot tip is for women who are considering going into business, especially a home business, and I might be biased but I reckon that women should choose a home business in personal development. Do you know that in America, the number of women-owned firms continues to grow at twice the rate of all U.S. firms (23 percent vs. 9 percent). There are an estimated 10 million women-owned, privately-held U.S. businesses. The greatest challenge for women-owned firms is access to capital, credit and equity. Women start businesses on both lifestyle and financial reasons. Many run businesses from home to keep overheads low (reference). I can imagine that the same sort of statistic would exist elsewhere in the world.

I know for sure, in my home business in personal development that many of the business owners are women. And I know that these women have what it takes to set up a business that allows them to work from home.  One of the things that it takes to be successful in your home business is persistence and perseverance.  Not only to access capital, credit and equity as shown by the American statistics, but also to understand marketing, arrange a daily schedule of activities that works for you and to keep going while the business is established and producing an income. Persistence is the key.

And it pays to remember that people who do not succeed in their home business may be just one shot away from success when they give upPersistence and perseverance is everything. Isn’t it great also to see the leadership role that women are taking in business about lifestyle and making money. Here in Cairns, in my home business in personal development, I can be persistent while enjoying my amazing lifestyle and having fun.

Why a Home Business in Personal Development

Why would anyone make a dramatic change in their life and move from a secure job into a home business in personal development? Well, I do not know about all others, but I know my reasons.  First and foremost, I was like many people.  I did not have job security.  Since I was on a contract that allowed my employer to cancel it at any time without reason, I spent those contract years ensuring that I was eminently employable.  Working cruel hours, and then doing lots of home work as well, going above and beyond every day, worrying when it came to contract renewal and making sure that I was politically correct.  This was a very tiring business and left me wondering what else there might be in life.  I hankered after my own small business.

My mind turned to being my own boss.  After all, could it be any less secure than my circumstances at the time.  Although it was critical, to make money was not my only driving aim.  I had always wanted other things like work freedom, a balance between accountability and responsibility, happiness and generosity and a host of other values based things.  The job had been good to me; I loved it but was driven to make my own way to success.  Have you ever heard of a millionaire who got that way while in a job?  A home business was definitely the go, something online if possible and suddenly there it was!!  The Universe provided and into my line of vision came this amazing online home business in personal development. I was ecstatic to say the least and my intuition assured me that this is just right.

This business caters for all of my needs. Time for my family, working from home, only the travel that I want to do, the opportunity to talk with amazing people every day, immersion in personal development which has been a lifetime love affair, assisting people all over the world to achieve their dreams and desires while I have the prospect of earning a six figure income.  The business has been amazingly successful in Australia and I am excited to be a part of such a revolution.  So the next time that I am asked – why a home business in personal development I will answer quite simply – because it is fun.  And then I will drink to my success and my intuition!
